IDLES

IDLES is a British punk rock band formed in Bristol in 2012, renowned for their raw energy and socially charged lyrics. The band consists of Joe Talbot (vocals), Mark Bowen (lead guitar), Adam Devonshire (bass), and Jon Beavis (drums). They gained significant attention with their debut album, “Brutalism,” released in 2017, which set the tone for their uncompromising approach to music and themes. Their sound blends aggressive punk with melodic elements, creating a visceral listening experience that resonates with a wide audience.

One of the defining characteristics of IDLES is their lyrical focus on mental health, masculinity, and social issues. The band’s message often challenges traditional notions of masculinity, promoting vulnerability and emotional expression among men. Songs like “Danny Nedelko” celebrate friendship and community, emphasising the importance of connection in an increasingly fragmented world. This commitment to tackling difficult subjects head-on has earned them a dedicated fanbase that appreciates their authenticity and courage.

IDLES’ live performances are legendary for their intensity and inclusivity. The band fosters a sense of togetherness at their shows, encouraging fans to embrace their individuality while also celebrating collective experiences. The energy in the crowd often mirrors the band’s passion on stage, creating an almost cathartic atmosphere. Their ability to connect with audiences on such a personal level has made them a prominent fixture in the contemporary punk scene.

Their second album, “Joy as an Act of Resistance,” released in 2018, was critically acclaimed and further solidified IDLES’ status in the music industry. The album addresses themes of identity, nationalism, and the struggles faced by marginalised communities. Tracks like “Never Fight a Man with a Perm” and “Colossus” showcase the band’s ability to combine sharp wit with powerful commentary, making them not just a band but also a voice for change.

With their third album, “Ultra Mono,” released in 2020, IDLES continued to evolve their sound while remaining true to their roots. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and featured collaborations with notable artists such as David Yow and Jehnny Beth. Through their relentless creativity and commitment to social justice, IDLES has carved out a unique space in music, inspiring listeners to confront their fears and embrace vulnerability. Their journey is not just about music; it’s about fostering a movement that encourages open dialogue and acceptance.

I'm the director of a wonderful, small web design company, based in a small village called Cromarty in the Highlands of Scotland. If you'd like a website built by a nice team of reliable people, most of whom have been building websites for well over 20 years, get in touch. We would love to help you.

If you host your website with us, we'll plant at least one tree a year (probably a few more), each and every year when we send you our invoice.

If this sounds good, pop over to our own website and get in touch. Jamie, Colin, Garve, Sandy or Gill will be happy to help you. If you're in the North of Scotland, pop in for a tea or coffee and we'll get you a nice bun to wash it down with, made by the fantastic folk of Cromarty Bakery.
