Katie Kim

Music that effectively creates an atmosphere doesn’t always clearly define the mood within it. Irish Singer, multi instrumentalist and songwriter, Katie Kim’s work over the past 15 years is filled with wild vacillations in the densities of her songs, sometimes within the songs. Across this spectrum from minimalist rhythms to thick, discordant arrangements, her albums form corral orchestrations around vague moods: melancholy, fatigue, and a low-simmering aggression.

Over 6 albums and an impressive plethora of collaborations, Kim has long had a mastery of nuance in her compositions. Transcending genres, she works with tones that could easily obliterate every other sound, but those components are always held back so that every beat, every hollow-chiming piano, every plucked string is fully present, no matter the magnificent noise building around it.

Along with Radie Peat, Ellie Myler and John 'Spud' Murphy, she also performs in ØXN, an experimental doom folk collaboration, who released their first record 'CYRM' in 2023 through Irelands legendary Claddagh Records.

Katie Kim has released six studio albums to date: Twelve (2008), Vaults Vol.1 (2011) Cover & Flood (2012) (UK release 2013) SALT (2016) Nominated for The RTE Choice Music Award for Album Of The Year. A live version of SALT reworked with the Crash Ensemble (2018) Charles VII (2020) and Hour of the Ox (2022)

I'm the director of a wonderful small web design company, based in a small village called Cromarty in the Highlands of Scotland. If you'd like a website built by a nice team of reliable people, most of whom have been building websites for well over 20 years, get in touch. We would love to help you.

If you host your website with us, we'll plant at least one tree a year (probably a few more), each and every year when we send you our invoice.

If this sounds good, pop over to our own website and get in touch. Jamie, Colin, Garve, Sandy or Gill will be happy to help you. If you're in the North of Scotland, pop in for a tea or coffee and we'll get you a nice bun to wash it down with, made by the fantastic folk of Cromarty Bakery.
