Bobbins – noun, adjective
When Miles Davis, Talking Heads, The Blue Nile and Steely Dan are pushed through a Kraftwerk Grinderman, lightly seasoned with some Lou and Joni, made into Nueburgers, and enjoyed with Orange Juice and Television.
Bobbins debut album "Maiden Voyage" is a cross genre affair in part inspired by playlist culture, in part by Brautigan (Richard) and Mitchell (Cloud Atlas) and the desire to weave together a wide range of musical influences from Jazz to Punk. The songs deal with climate breakdown (Diamonds) mental health (Surviving Monday) political apathy (Guess What?), love (The Man Who Lost His Love to America etc), war (The Buddha Drives on Deep into Europe) and alternative surrealism (The Mid-Atlantic Layaway Stall etc).
On the second album “Find a way to fight” Bobbins rage against the machine. The nexus of the 1%, big corporate power and authoritarian government are centre target while unwillingness to act on environmental, climate and resource insanity is dissected. Much of the album was written during the pandemic so the frightening nature of mass psychosis is explored. The difficulties most of us encounter when trying to find a way to fight, whatever the cause, are lamented although some hope is offered in the form of ‘Lightning’. Love is all you need, so let’s all send some into the future…
